Using the New TMO Code of Governance Toolkit

The new TMO Code of Governance 'tool-kit' will help your organisation to agree a Code that fits the circumstances of your TMO and meets national standards of good practice. It will help developing TMOs to draw up a new code, and established TMOs to improve an existing Code of Governance. The main document illustrates what the Code should include and offers a model format that can be used to make the drafting process much easier. Within the model format you will need to add details to reflect the way your TMO operates. The Tool Box also includes information about and help with over 20 other governance documents that you may need.

To access and use  the TMO Code of Governance follow the link at the bottom of this page to the TMO Toolbox. Then click on the link that says 'We are well run and in control'.

The drop down menu will show you two alternative versions of the Code. One for TMOs with rules that call their governing body the 'board' and one for TMOs whose rules refer to the 'committee'. You can click on 'View Document' to view and download a Word document of the version that fits your TMO.

The downloaded word document provides you with a template to agree your own code. You will need to insert text to reflect the way your own TMO works. Develop your code through discussion and, if necessary, training sessions. Never adopt a code unless members of your board/committee understand the code and are signed up to working within the agreed rules.

You will notice that the main code has links to several other documents that will help you develop policies and procedures that you will need covering things like financial control, conflicts of interest, confidentiallity, conduct at meetings etc. A drop down list of  those same documents can also be viewed by clicking on 'More Information' under the Code in the Toolbox.

Each of these documents can be viewed and downloaded independently. Within many of those documents we aim to provide links to examples of actual policies and procedures kindly provided by other TMOs. These will be added over time and may not yet be available when you view the PDF.

If you are an operating TMO and have good examples of policies and procedures that you are willing to share, please email a copy to contact@nftmo.com
