Benchmarking
Images

The NFTMO has joined forces with HouseMark to develop a national model of Benchmarking to enable TMOs to compare with each other on areas of housing performance, financial management and good governance (meaning committee work, staff management etc.)

This way of comparing against others has been around for many years. With the aid of an Innovation into Action grant, the NFTMO and Housemark have joined together to develop a model solely for the use of TMOs. The Benchmarking Model was successfully piloted with a group of 14 TMOs and has now been opened up to all TMOs through a series of regional workshops and an associated Guide.

Why Bechmark?
Benchmarking helps a TMO assess how it is performing and to identify strengths and weaknesses when compared with other similar TMOs. It can also help to establish networks where TMOs can learn from each other – sharing experiences and knowledge.

line

How much time does it involve?
It varies, but in the pilot studies it took about one day (once per year) to collect the information needed to complete the data collection form. That includes a self-assessment review session that normally involves some committee members and staff.

What about confidentiality?
Information that your TMO provides is treated in confidence. Participating TMOs receive a report that includes the performance information, but not the identity, of the other TMOs. Contacts for sharing, learning and study visits are arranged only with the consent of those TMOs involved.

How do we join in?
If your TMO is not already a member of the TMO Benchmarking Network you can find out more by contacting the NFTMO or viewing the NFTMO's TMO Benchmarking Guide on this page.
